Louisiana Gas Association Scholarships

As part of its charter, the Louisiana Gas Association sponsors various Public Education and Public Relations programs, including Scholarship awards to qualifying students attending 4-year accredited Colleges and Universities. More than $258,000 in scholarships have been awarded since 1998.
Eligibility Requirements
The applicant must be the son, daughter, legal ward, or dependent of an employee of the following:
- A LGA member company that has been active for at least one full calendar year before the date of the scholarship application deadline;
- An active LGA member company that provides multiple utilities, products & services are eligible only if their job functions are primarily (50% or greater) with the natural gas transmission or distribution industry.
- An active LGA member company must primarily (50% or greater) work in Louisiana.
- A current or past LGA Board Member of an active LGA member company, regardless if their primary work is in Louisiana.
- The employee form must be completed by the employee and signed by the company's primary representative and mailed with the application. If the form does not accompany the application or the company's primary representative does not sign it, the application will be considered incomplete and will not be considered.
- The LGA member company is considered active and eligible to participate if an employee of the member company has attended the LGA Annual Operations Conference or one of the LGA Educational Seminars during the previous calendar year.
- Applicants will be considered without regard to race, color, national origin, age, sex, religion, handicap, or veteran status.
- Prior LGA scholarship recipients are not eligible for future scholarship awards.
- Individual or Special Members and their employees are not eligible.
Criteria
UNDERGRADUATE CRITERIA:
- Must be a current full-time student attending an accredited 4-year college or university or a combination of a 4-year program at a college or university and specialty school (ie. Nursing school).
- Must have successfully completed at least 60 credit hours (Junior or Senior classification).
- Must be 25 years old or younger at the time of application.
- Must be enrolled at the time of application submission.
- Must demonstrate well-roundedness through extracurricular activities, club memberships, community service, or leadership roles.
MASTER’S DEGREE CRITERIA:
- Must be currently enrolled in a Master’s degree program at an accredited institution.
- Must provide evidence of academic excellence and leadership in their field.
- No age restriction applies to Master’s applicants.
Scholarship Amounts
The scholarship award amounts listed below are subject to change from year to year by the LGA Board of Directors. Awards are made by the consensus of the Scholarship Committee.
Scholarship Awards Include:
- College Juniors/Seniors: $2,500 is awarded to up to ten juniors or seniors in a 4-year accredited college or university (see full eligibility online).
- Master’s Degree: $2,500 will now be available for students who are actively pursuing their Master’s degree at an accredited institution.
- Competitive Scholarship: $5,000 will be awarded to one student who demonstrates exceptional achievement, exceeding the standard criteria of other scholarship recipients.
Deadline
Completed applications and all required documents must be postmarked by the deadline July 15th to be considered. Scholarships are typically announced and awarded in August.
