About William S. Boyd, D.C.
William S. Boyd (1916–1996) was a pioneering figure in Louisiana chiropractic and held the first chiropractic license issued in the state. In 1953 he served as Vice‑President of what was then the Louisiana Chiropractic Association, and he was President from 1955 to 1960. Boyd campaigned for licensure of the profession for many years; Louisiana chiropractic licensure was eventually achieved in 1974. In 1960 he was elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives, becoming the first chiropractor to serve in the state legislature. After his term, he returned to the association as legislative chairman for several years. In 1988 CAL honored him as Honorary Chairman of the Board — an honor unique in the organization’s history. Even after retirement he remained an active voice in the association until his death in 1996.
