Overview and Eligibility
The scholarship is open without discrimination on the basis of race, creed, color, age, or national origin. Applicants must be permanent residents of a Louisiana parish, must intend to use the scholarship at a Louisiana institution of higher education, and must plan to enroll as full-time undergraduate students. Immediate family members of the Sheriff are not eligible to apply; however, family members of employees of the Sheriff’s Office may apply.
Review Committee
The Sheriff may appoint a review committee composed of nonpartisan citizens, or may choose to work with parish school personnel to form the committee. The choice and composition of the Review Committee are entirely at the Sheriff’s discretion.
Application Requirements
- Applicant must be a permanent resident of a parish in Louisiana.
- Scholarship funds must be used at an institution of higher learning located in Louisiana.
- Applicant must plan to enroll as a full-time undergraduate student.
- Immediate family of the Sheriff is ineligible to apply.
- Families of Sheriff’s Office employees are eligible to apply.
Factors to Consider in Selecting Recipient(s)
The Review Committee is encouraged to consider, among other things:
- Completion and accuracy of all application items.
- Academic record and scholastic achievements.
- Extracurricular activities, honors, and accomplishments.
- The applicant’s stated reasons for seeking the scholarship.
- Demonstrated commitment and sincerity toward achieving their educational goals.
- Financial need.
