About the Jimmy Rane Foundation
The Jimmy Rane Foundation was created to help promising students pursue higher education. To date, the Foundation has granted 756 scholarships to deserving young people. Recipients have used these awards at colleges and universities across the country, including Auburn, University of Alabama, University of Pennsylvania, Harvard, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Baylor, Indiana University, Troy, Duke, Stanford, Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech, University of Georgia and many others. The Foundation believes these scholars will accomplish significant things with their education and, in time, pay that help forward to others.

Eligibility requirements
To be considered for a Jimmy Rane Foundation scholarship, applicants must meet all of the following conditions:
- Enrollment/Institution: Scholarships may only be used at an accredited institution that maintains a regular faculty and curriculum and has an organized student body on site, and that is listed by the U.S. Department of Education as accredited by recognized accrediting agencies.
- Employment restrictions: Employees of Great Southern Wood Preserving, Incorporated, its parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, and their immediate family members or other persons living in the same household are not eligible.
- Student-athlete status: Applicants must certify they did not participate as a student-athlete (including those on partial or full athletic scholarships) in intercollegiate athletics during the prior semester (or quarter, if applicable) or academic year, and that they will not participate as a student-athlete in intercollegiate athletics during the upcoming semester (or quarter, if applicable) or academic year.
- Online-only programs: Students enrolled exclusively in online or distance-learning degree programs are not eligible.*
- High school GPA: Graduating high school seniors must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- High school applicant status: Applicants who are full-time high school seniors must be progressing normally toward graduation in Spring or Summer 2026 and intend to begin college no later than the Fall term immediately following graduation.
- College applicant status and age: Applicants who are full-time college freshmen or sophomores must be no older than 20 years of age as of August 1, 2026, and must be progressing normally toward a bachelor’s degree.
- College GPA: College applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75.
- Residency: The applicant’s permanent home address must be in one of the following states or the District of Columbia: Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, or West Virginia.
- Citizenship: Applicants must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents.
- Limited online coursework: Online or distance-learning courses are acceptable only when they are part of required curriculum that is taught in the campus environment, or when a specific course is available only online or via distance learning.
Scholar profile and evaluation criteria
Jimmy Rane Foundation scholars are selected based on academic achievement, leadership, community involvement, honors and activities, and demonstrated financial need. Applicants should show determination to overcome challenges and a clear desire to reach their educational and career goals. Submissions will be evaluated on:
- Future goals and the concrete plan to achieve them
- Preparation and academic readiness demonstrated during high school to pursue college-level work
- Self-motivation in taking and completing rigorous coursework
- Demonstrated financial need
*Note: Exclusively online degree seekers are not eligible for scholarships unless the institution’s required curriculum includes on-campus instruction or a course is only offered via distance learning.
