Eligibility
Because the pandemic has reduced our fundraising capacity, the ALHEF Board of Trustees has decided to continue awarding scholarships this year but on a reduced scale; accordingly, some requirements have been adjusted.
- Applicants must be citizens of the United States or Canada and also reside in the Southwest Region of the United States (Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, or New Mexico). Previous scholarship recipients remain eligible for consideration.
- Candidates must be actively working toward a career in information and records management. Eligible fields of study are limited to Records Management/Governance, Archivist, and Academic Library programs.
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is required.
- The Fund Trustees will determine the number of scholarships granted each academic year.
Application requirements
- Complete the scholarship application form and submit a 200–300 word essay explaining how your studies will advance your career in records and information management and how your education will add value to an organization.
- Provide three (3) letters of recommendation from employers, instructors, or other individuals qualified to attest to your character and suitability.
- Include a copy of your most recent academic transcript and your degree plan.
Deadlines and notification
- Applications for the Alice L. Haltom Educational Fund Scholarship must be submitted by May 1 of the year in which funding is requested.
- Applicants will be notified of award decisions in July.
Award disbursement and reporting requirements
- Scholarship funds will be released only after the Fund receives written proof of enrollment at an accredited institution.
- Recipients must submit receipts for tuition, fees, books, and related expenses (up to the scholarship amount) to the Executive Director of the Fund as soon as those receipts are available.
- Official grades for the term covered by the award must be forwarded to the Executive Director as soon as they are issued. If grades are not received within 60 days after the end of the term, a Form 1099 will be generated and submitted to the IRS for tax reporting purposes.
